"Olympia is a painting by Édouard Manet that caused shock and astonishment when it was first exhibited at the 1865 Paris Salon."
The shocking thing about this image was the fact that the model was looking at the viewier.
This was something not seen before and made the viewer feel part of painting rather then peaking in on something happening.
Rachel spoke to us about looking into the female and male gaze, how men and women see paintings differently.
This painting below features another titian on my blog, showing Venus her posture more open and willing the the Manet, clearly painted for a target audience.
There was a lovely british museum clip i found with the ice age nudes as well showing and discussing how they thought it might be made for women by women in the sense of that its not showing the women but what her body was going through throughout time, almost as an object/being that displaying the different stages of its life.
The overwhelming ammount of different ways i can take this dscussion of my work is really starting to quite bog me down slightly as im just totally unsure of where to start
I think when me and my partner meet on monday were going to have to have a really long think about what small subject matter we can tackle in a 2 week long project which will already be halfway through.
Im going to keep painting today and tomorrow and start to build up a body of work that i can more refine and analyse and develop from because it was only a starting point that i had to work with on thursday.
