28.03.13

I had planned on doing a quick outfit of the day to add to my personal part of my project. OH MY GOD I can't believe how long this took, I thought working on the iPad would make things quicker and simpler but this quick sketch ended up taking me like 3 hours to colour in!
So er, yeh. Anti-climactic but these are my "to lazy to leave the house" clothes. Mint green hoodie, blue joggers and speckled grey shirt.

24.03.13

Well hello again!
Sorry it's been a few days I've been taking some r+r and gave myself an Internet break for a few days.
Finally received my stylus for my iPad (huge pain in the arse finding one) and have been playing!
Here's what I've been up to.
I've been drawing Stilton cats, a very loved and shared animal, even our cat Arnie I'm pretty sure has 3 owners.
Speak soon!

20.03.13

Another day spent walking round on a gloomy day. No thoughts yet, will update on the writing when I'm available, just wanted to get these up and online for now.

Tuesday 19 March 2013

I want to get better at this.

Labi Siffre - You're Lovely.

Sometimes the most simple things I draw are my favourite.

Personal - Nostalgia

It's nice to hear your voice again
I've waited all day long
Even wrote a song for you
It's strange, the way you make me feel
With just a word or two
I'd like to do the same for you

It's nice to hear you say hello
And "how are things with you - I love you"
But very soon it's time to go
An office job to do
While I'm here writing songs for you

Strange how a phonecall can change your day
Take you away
Away from the feeling of being alone
Bless the telephone

It's nice, the way you say my name
Not very fast or slow, just soft and low
The same as when you tell me how you feel
I feel the same way too
I'm very much in love with you

Bless the telephone - Labi Siffre.
Extremely nostalgic, been surrounded by his song my whole life, full of love and warmth.

Poppy the dog.

Big part of my personal home. Have never drawn dogs but will try to by the end of this project.

19.03.13 - Fifty Three

Playing around with my new drawing app. I actually think this has genuine potential! Have yet to do firsthand drawing with it but I will report back! This is whatever got up to so far, it's funny how you can actually see my drawing style getting used to it just through these few doodles. This was all with my hands, yet to purchase a pen. I like it! A lot!

Artist Research - Cathy Cullis

These beautiful ink paintings by Cathy Cullis really get the vibe I want to show Stilton as yet with dark colours, something I was worried about developing into. I think Stilton is either a wishy washy watercolour vibe, or a colourful Lino, completely different I know but it strikes me different on different days!

Spots hidden under claws

18.03.13 - Personal

So as I may or may not have explained yet, this project is being cut into 3 smaller projects.
Place
People
Personal.
I'm roughly trying to spend 2 weeks on each but obviously they will bleed into one another. As you might of noticed, I've been starting off with place. This is a more regimented approach, find places, photograph them, draw them. This is the aspect I'm good at. Thorough routine.
People, kind of he same being honest,
But personal, I have a feeling I will struggle with, so to ease myself into things I'm going to start posting self portraits from time to time hopefully. Please don't find me arrogant, I really do find it quite hard to bare my soul to strangers. Superficial things like what I had for tea and me and my mates out drinking I'm fine with, but all this soppy stuff makes me want to crawl back to bed with horror of just how cringey it might be. Wish me luck.

18.03.13 - Little bit of perspective..

Just thought I would let you guys know hoe really out of the sticks I am, while casually looking for the nearest swimming pool near me, it dawned on me just how I really am in the middle of nowhere. Just big. Green. Field from here to the horizon and over again. Amazing how somewhere like this you think would be remote but we feel as connected as a city. Well at least i do..

Artist Research - Laura Bernard

"Two and a half metre panorama looking out over Peterborough from St John’s church tower. The foreground shows the mixture of old and new in the town centre, and on the horizon you can see as far as the railway bridges, the football ground and out to the houses stretching north."

Laura Bernard is a free lance illustrator who specialise in intricate cityscapes and has amazingly drawn my little old town of Peterborough.
Not really my cup of tea as I find just plain old "copy what you see in grey" a little bit dull but I can see the skill!

17.03.13

Happy green beer day everyone.
Another lazy rainy day spent inside.
Used the crap Sunday afternoon tele to do a little bit of drawing.
Developed the photographs that I had taken yesterday into some pencil sketches.
I have to admit that I'm not really enjoying the constant drawing of houses terribly, I sort of lose my enthusiasm after about 30 minutes and end up wanting to faces again.
I think these would actually work really well in prints, what'd ya think?
Though, being at home for what could be 3 weeks is a tad annoying that I can't get to any print resources. Oh we'll, keep on keeping.
P.S my temporary work space, all this lovely space!

Gloomy typical saturday in stilton.
My favourite.
Decided that i definitely needed some photographs to work from and keep, so i ran outside when the sun came out for an hour or two so that i could get some good snaps.

They might not be the best photographs i've ever taken but i was seeing them from a drawing/research perspective not a finished final photograph so excuse the composition of some.

I think my favourite are the two of "39 church street."
This house is situated right next to a "lagoon" behind the church. (When i say lagoon, its a swampy dell thats covered mossy sludge). The owners have sectioned off their pathway from the lagoon and planted lots of knobbly trees to give a bit of privacy. But, being the nosey ,i had a snoop.
They had an old boat that had been beached and placed neatly next's to the bins as if it was ready for recycling but instead the years had covered it in moss and debris. I know curiosity killed the cat but i am just dying to know what happened to that boat to make it stay there for all them years.
Then a few more steps up, i found an old caravan hidden behinds some more sparse, dying bushes. It just looked so out of place with its happy go lucky 60's design and cheerful sky blue panelling. Its almost a little sad to see it sitting in the mud, rotting away.

As i walked away from the house i noticed that i could see little tiny cracks in the bushes that displayed the house behind it, it looked a very old, stone built, very big place. I feel like there a children's story somewhere in all of this just waiting to be written, like im in the secret garden or something.
